When trying to connect with MSOnline, you may see errors similar to the following:
Connect-MsolService : Exception of type 'Microsoft.Online.Administration.Automation.
MicrosoftOnlineException' was thrown.
Connect-MsolService : Access Denied. You do not have permissions to call this cmdlet.
Connect-MsolService : The user name or password is incorrect. Verify your user name,

As of March 30, 2024, Microsoft officially deprecated the MSOnline, AzureAD, and AzureADPreview PowerShell modules. These modules will continue working through March 30, 2025, but only receive critical security fixes. Starting early April 2025, MSOnline will begin passing into retirement, meaning cmdlets will start failing, with full shutdown by late May 2025. AzureAD follows soon after, with retirement slated after July 1, 2025. [source].
Here’s the reality…
Yes, the MSOnline PowerShell module is being replaced by Microsoft Graph PowerShell, and there are plenty of resources out there to help you make the jump. On paper, Graph PowerShell is more modern, more capable, and tightly integrated with Microsoft’s evolving cloud APIs.
But let’s be honest – many IT pros feel like it’s a big step backward in terms of usability.
The CmdLet names are long and cumbersome. Authentication flows are more complex. Even simple tasks often require multiple steps, elevated permissions, or understanding the underlying Graph API structure. Powerful? Absolutely. User-friendly? Not so much.
Recognizing the frustration, Microsoft responded with yet another module: the Microsoft Entra PowerShell module. This one tries to bring back some of the simplicity of the old AzureAD module while aligning with Entra terminology. But now we’re in a landscape where there’s:
Microsoft Graph PowerShell
Microsoft Entra PowerShell
Exchange Online PowerShell V3
Microsoft Entra Connect PowerShell
…and who knows what’s next?
You see where this is going?
We’re not moving toward simplicity – we’re heading into even more fragmentation.
So if your goal is to modernize your first-line support, the answer isn’t to retrain them on yet another PowerShell module. It’s to take a whole new approach.
You need a tool that’s intuitive, removes complexity, and lets your junior IT staff work efficiently and confidently, without constantly escalating routine tasks to your senior engineers.
Enter EasyEntra…
PowerShell Was Never Meant To Run Your Helpdesk
Here’s the thing: PowerShell is phenomenal for automation and bulk changes. But as an ad-hoc first-line support tool? It’s a nightmare.
Think about the typical first-line support scenario. A user needs calendar permissions adjusted, their mailbox localized, or a hybrid account resynced. These aren’t massive automation tasks – they’re one-offs that need to be resolved quickly.
Yet because these actions require PowerShell expertise, they’re out of reach for most helpdesk staff. The ticket escalates. A senior engineer steps in, burns 10–15 minutes on a trivial task, and loses focus on the strategic work they were doing.
Multiply this across dozens of tickets a week, and you’ve got:
Lost productivity at every level.
Frustrated end-users waiting longer for resolution.
Senior IT talent bogged down in first-line tasks instead of optimizing security or planning migrations.
This isn’t just inefficient – it’s costly.
EasyEntra Changes Everything
This is where EasyEntra comes in.
Designed from the ground up to feel like the well-known Active Directory Users & Computers (ADUC), EasyEntra provides a unified and intuitive interface for managing both on-premises/hybrid and cloud-only environments.
With EasyEntra, your support staff can:
Automate user onboarding and offboarding.
Trigger an Entra Connect delta sync.
Manage mailbox delegation and localization.
Configure Outlook auto-mapping.
- And lots more.
…all from a single, intuitive UI without depending on PowerShell.
There’s no jumping between ADUC, Exchange on-premises, M365 Admin Center, Exchange Admin Center, and various PowerShell consoles. Everything they need is right there, in one clean UI.
The best part?
No servers to install. No service accounts. No infrastructure changes.
EasyEntra executes using the same personal admin credentials your team already uses.
You can go from download to first action in under a minute.
EasyEntra even supports side-by-side multi-tenant management, making it ideal for MSPs or organizations managing multiple environments. And for smaller tenants (less than 25 licensed users), it’s completely free.
According to our customers, EasyEntra pays for itself within a few months, just from time savings, reduced escalations, and increased end-user productivity. Add to that the ability to shut down the last Exchange on-premises server instead of migrating to Exchange SE.
Eliminate your PowerShell pain and download the EasyEntra 30-day trial.
