Use case: Use this procedure when you need temporary administrative permissions to perform tasks in Microsoft Entra ID. Activating an eligible Privileged Identity Management (PIM) role grants time-limited access, reducing standing privileges while enabling authorized administrative operations.
To activate a PIM role, do the following:
- Expand the Connection Manager tab and select Entra ID.
- Right-click the appropriate connection, and then select Activate PIM Roles.
- If using PIM Roles for activation, select the appropriate PIM role. Alternatively, select the desired roles to activate.
- Specify the activation duration. Optionally, enter a justification and a ticket number.
- Click Activate.
- When the activation is complete, review the output, and then click Reload.
- When the reload is complete, verify that the status of the activated roles is Activated.
