Use case: Use this procedure to create a shared mailbox account in a hybrid environment. Hybrid shared mailboxes are created in Active Directory and automatically synchronized to Exchange Online, allowing multiple users to read and send email from a common address – such as support, info, or sales – through Outlook or Outlook Web Access (OWA).
To create a hybrid shared mailbox account, do the following:
- Right-click the OU where you want to create the user and select New → User.
- Select Shared mailbox from the User Type dropdown.
- Fill out the Display Name and Email, then click Next.
- Fill out the UserPrincipalName and SAM Account Name, then click Next.
- Open the Account tab and check Account is disabled.
- Modify any user settings according to your needs by navigating the tabs on the left-hand side.
- Click Create to start the user creation process.
