Use case: Use this procedure to create a mail-enabled distribution group in a hybrid environment. Hybrid mail-enabled groups are created and managed in Active Directory and automatically synchronized to Exchange Online, allowing members to send and receive group emails.
To create a new hybrid mail-enabled distribution group, follow these steps:
- Select Active Directory.
- Right-click the OU where you want to create the group, and then select New > Group.
- In the Group Type dropdown, select Mail-enabled.
- Enter the following information, and then click Next:
- Display Name
- SAM Account Name
- Modify any group settings as needed by navigating the tabs on the left-hand side.
- Select Create to start the group creation process.
Hint: To speed up the creation of the distribution group in Exchange Online, trigger a synchronization of Microsoft Entra Connect in the top left corner. The distribution group is available a minute or two after synchronization has completed.
